The awards were presented today (June 4, 2026) in Moyenpur village of Mundumala Municipality, Tanore Upazila, Rajshahi, beneath the shade of a nearly 500-year-old banyan tree, an enduring symbol of nature, biodiversity, and agricultural heritage.

BARCIK Barind Regional Coordinator Shahidul Islam highlighted the importance of agroecology and the contributions of farming communities.

By promoting local knowledge, indigenous seeds, biodiversity conservation, and chemical-free food production, agroecology strengthens both ecosystems and livelihoods.

The awards recognized achievements in 20 categories, including seed diversity conservation, climate-resilient rice innovation, community seed banks, agroecological farming, improved eco-friendly ovens, organic pest management, tree planting, soil health protection, bird conservation, diverse food systems, women’s environmental leadership, urban waterbody protection, rooftop gardening, medicinal plant conservation, and the preservation of ancient trees.

Organizers mentioned that the awardees are playing exemplary roles in promoting sustainable agriculture, biodiversity conservation, and community resilience. Their recognition is expected to inspire more people, particularly young generations, to engage in nature-friendly and sustainable development initiatives.
