Protect the Rivers and wetlands

A human chain was organized in Rajshahi with the powerful message of saving rivers, protecting the environment, and ensuring a livable future for all. The event took place at Saheb Bazar Zero Point and brought together environmental activists, civil society representatives, and different walks of people.

The participants expressed deep concern over a range of pressing issues affecting the city. They spoke about the destruction of trees, the filling of ponds and wetlands, and the ongoing pollution and encroachment of rivers. They also discussed on air and water pollution as well as water scarcity in the area

Speakers urged the government and relevant authorities to take immediate and effective action to address these challenges. They stressed that without proper intervention, the environmental and social conditions of Rajshahi would continue to deteriorate.

The human chain also served as a platform to present a comprehensive set of demands aimed at ensuring environmental sustainability and social justice. Participants called for the protection of remaining green spaces, the restoration of wetlands, surface water sources, the control of pollution, and the establishment of effective waste management systems. They also emphasized on the need for safe healthcare, sustainable water management, and the protection of agricultural land.
